Nexus directors Smith & Foulkes (just back from the Oscars) continue their tradition of smart, grandly-scaled and smile-inducing productions with a series of isometric 3d/2d clips for Comcast.

Smith and Foulkes: “With the music as our starting point we thought it would be fun to create a world where the whole community lives to the rhythm. We decided there would no cuts and the environment would be totally isometric. It was fun for us because we got to shoot the cast performing. We even make a cameo if you look close enough. Using an arresting illustration style our 3d team built Comcast Town to comp the live action into. We liked the idea that whilst the real cast get on with their ordinary daily business there is a plethora of incidental strange animated characters that not only reinforce the song lyrics but have a lot of fun doing so.” Agency: Goodby, Silverstein and Partners, director: Smith & Foulkes, post/animation: Nexus Productions, live action: Bright Pictures.

Here’s director Kareem Thompson of Blackbelt Kids on the new video for friends and fellow Torontonians Ten Kens: “It was an idea pitched to the band. We were pretty free after that to do as we pleased. Working for the band was the easy part… getting a lot done in a short time, was tough. We all work full time jobs so there was a lot of after hours work and weekends – we started in mid June and it took about two and a half months. There has been discussion about pushing the main character into a longer format, so keep your eyes peeled.” Label:
Fat Cat Records.

The Basel Vase by Jaime Hayon is handpainted, measuring 13,4 x 13,4 x 31,5”. There’s something else you should know about this artistic piece of ceramic – it has precious 18k golden details on. I love how Hayon managed to give a classic twist to its cartoonish drawings!
